The last thing to make me laugh was in neffable's LJ: Cursive writing does not mean what I think it does
Also, I thought I'd point to this: MUSIC VIDEO COMPETITION: WIN FREE WEBSPACE (v2) for anyone interested. I may even have a go myself. Of course my last vid attempt was an angsty Shep/McKay romance to...wait for it...Barbie Girl - so I may struggle with this. *g*

Work, a Uni course...and a family. What was I thinking?
The family has to go.
Sadly, it's LJ that's mostly gone for me for now. Although I have been sneaking in to read Jack/Daniel. There was an excellent SG1 and House crossover by someone clever I cannot recall. Paian's an excellent source for both stories and recs. Janedavitt's j/d and j/d/paul stories of course. And I've been poking about the J/D ficathon submissions too.
Just wanted to say hi. :)

So I have this job now, a whole new career and I'm an absolute maniac at it. It's just so different from what I'm used to and I'm floundering. What I need to do is grow me a set of balls and start faking some confidence...I'm smiling here at how disastrous that could prove but, honestly, I've little to lose at this stage. *g*
Old, much-worn recs probably, but...
janedavitt's excellent Eclipsed series (Jack/Paul) (WIP - currently at Part 5) is divided into sections: 'Now', 'Then' and 'Way Back When' making it three stories in one. But the real bonus (for me anyway) is that while it is definitely a Jack/Paul love story, Jack and Daniel's friendship is heart-warmingly solid and the conflict, misunderstandings and downright jelously this causes is delightful. Angsty, hot and very well written - if you're not reading it you should be.
destina's Descant (Jack/Daniel) was a fabulous read too.
Galloped over to paian's LJ, but alas there were no new J/D fics to gobble. So I just read some old ones. I'm so easy to please. *g*
Disturbing was a kerfuffle last month I got sidetracked following.
Thinking of carolyn_claire, jenlev and alias_lilacgirl. We're all busy but if you write me, I'll respond and enjoy the distraction, I'm just, you know, a little preoccupied floundering just now to initiate a tackle. *g*

Thank you everyone who participated in my LJ Etiquette Poll last month.
It would appear that if you want to please the majority of people in LJ you should: - know you're welcome to friend them without notice or hesitation. - know that they don't expect you to friend them back, but it would be nice. - cut-tag all photos and all posts longer than a few paragraphs. - cut-tag all posts containing spoilers or boring content (quizzes, to-do lists etc.) - feel free to code usernames as many times as you want. - remember not to overuse 'LOL', smiley faces etc., because it's irritating. - know it's okay to swear.
And on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being not annoyed, 10 being furious, the medians were: - 7 for fanfic posted without all relevant information. - 7 for WIPs posted without links to earlier parts. - 7 for posts with spelling and grammar errors. - 8.5 for icon stealing. - 8 for musicvid ripoffs. - 1 for drabbles not being exactly 100 words. - 4 for people advertising their new communities in another community.

My last poll revealed my next poll should be about the SG1 fandom. What was I thinking? I'm not even watching Season 9.
Anywho, I start off okay, I think, but then I get a bit general. But it's all stuff I'm interested in.
Poll #658351 SG1 Fandom
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 19 Your favorite pairing (pick two). Are you enjoying Season 9? Do you have a problem with the direction Daniel's character has taken? Your Friends List. What fannish posts do you most like to see? (max of 4) Fan heirarchy. Is there such a thing? And how do you feel about it? In fanfic, how do you feel about the use of sensitive issues as a plot device? Public critique. Good or bad? Feedback - a writer's pov. What do you want? Feedback - a reader's pov. Do you expect acknowledgement? Feedback - generally. Of all the stories you read, what percentage do you give feedback on? Atlantis fandom. Do you resent them?

alias_lilacgirl! Thank you so much for the Christmas card and box of goodies. Delicious biscuits and butterscotch and a chocolate thing - you must tell me what that is. *g* I'll mention here, I sent you an email - in case it gets lost. I'm so touched you cooked for me. Thank you, sweetie. *smooches you hard*
And thanks to an anonymous, very kind person, I have a paid account until 24 February. And as I've never posted a poll, here is my first poll ever:

Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 111. What would you like my Second Poll Ever, to be about? 2. If you answered 'Other' in Q1, what would you like to see a Poll on?

Merry Christmas!!
Better late than never, right?
Thank you drc1 for the beautiful Christmas card, lucky stars and guardian angels. And xanpet2000 too, thank you for thinking of me. And Anonymous for the two months paid account (icon space!), very generous and much appreciated (but you shouldn't have), thank you. :)
The Christmas cards I promised, are in the mail. Or at least they will be because. . .
Better late than never right? *g*
But I know you'll forgive me, because I've had a busy Christmas. :)

I recently did a First Aid Course.
Studying the Manual one night, I was amused by the wording of this piece of advice regarding detaching leeches: It [the leech] can also be encouraged to let go by slicing it in half with a knife.
Um, yeah, that might work. Hee!
Another interesting tidbit was Americans are currently studying the feasibility of performing CPR minus EAR ie. chest compressions without breathing into a victim's mouth. The theory is the chest compressions draw enough air into the lungs for the purpose of resusitation.
What a breakthrough that would be. Not having to seal your mouth over some stranger's mouth - how many lives have been lost because a potential first aider was unwilling to do just that?
And a Happy New Year!!

Okay, where's danvers? She changed her name just to confuse me, didn't she.
I need to ask her something.
Or maybe you can help:
flaming_muse is all a-bibble about Sheppard in a tux. And who can blame her? *g* I remember Danvers posted a link to a clip from some movie of Joe Flanigan in a tux and sunglasses, dancing like a goof-ball at a wedding reception.
Would anyone still have that link? For flaming_muse in the hope of a story, obviously. ;) But for me too. I actually deleted it *slaps palm to forehead* Can you believe that?
Appreciated. :)

A certain Shy and Retiring one of you recently commented to the effect that s/he never really knew what to say in response to some of my posts. . .But you know, I tend to see myself as a lovable, benign, fairly empathetic creature, albeit a pretty clearly opinionated one who isn't too good when it comes to being discreet and reserved about what really grates my cheese. And the comment does chip in with something I dimly remember Bex saying about me being a bit, well, intimidating. . . -- rivier
Oh god, SHE'S TALKING ABOUT ME! *heh* But it's true, I posted a comment in her LJ I had second thoughts about. Not because it wasn't a nice comment (it was, I swear - ask her) but because I didn't know her well enough to know how she'd take my sense of humour.
It's ironic really, in fear of offending I have offended.
Not that I believe she's really offended, are you, you great hairy-nosed ogre. . .you see what I mean? That sounded funny in my head but on paper. . .*looks around for the delete button*
:)
PS. Ditto to troyswann who I also did this to recently. *sigh*

I almost replied to a 12-year-old's question about writing. She wrote:
i have a little saying, "Less is more, as long as less is good." I want to know what every one thinks about it. I really love it. My english teacher showd my this and i really think it is true.
I'm the motherly type and I know I'd have enjoyed chatting with her. But then I thought: What if she likes me? What if, like a little puppy, she follows me back to my LJ? And wants to stay. I enjoy reading about men taking it up the ass and have no inhibitions talking about it - well, maybe some. *g* But I'm not appropriate for this child. So I didn't answer her.
What would you have done?
